I was stuck in the arm by a nurse today
this large, kind woman in generic teal scrubs

sat seventeen minutes in the infant-decorated waiting room,
surrounded by blocks and plastic penguins,
waiting for her to call my name
while some huge-headed kid in basketball shorts twitched involuntarily
and played with his hems

she stuck me in the arm as gently as she could
in order to protect me from the human papillomavirus

and I did not, though I could have,
ask her if she knew any good endocrinologists

I'm reaching the end of my rope re: HRT, but I don't know what to say or to whom I should say it. Everyone in my family who has medical clearance for this sort of decision is constantly busy, unwilling to talk about it, or both.

i would suggest some kind of punctuation between this line and the next; perhaps a colon but at least a comma.

otherwise, this is a vivid and deeply personal poem; i can't say i relate or understand, but i felt your words very deeply. this certainly isn't pointless; it captures a seemingly mundane moment in the light of your emotions, and that's something special.
